TP**
C.A. Designs TP** twisted-pair video distribution amplifier products comprise a collection of modules capable of high quality picture and data transmission over Category 5 (4-pair) UTP or FTP cables. This typically allows the transport of PC video signals using twisted-pair cables throughout office complexes (wired with structured cable systems) to remote monitor screens.
Each video link has a line-driving module and line-receiving module. Various versions cover different distances, number of outputs, signal formats, power supply, enclosures, etc.
Line-Driving Modules:
... transform the video signal into a form suitably matched to level 5 UTP or FTP cable. A composite video output is constructed from the incoming video and sync input signals, modified by gating and time delays then amplified to differentially drive a balanced transmission line.
Compensation for cable length to improve picture sharpness is externally switchable on some modules for up to 300 metres.
Models are available with one, three or six twisted-pair outputs and in boxed or rack-mounting format. These units take their power either from the driving PC (requiring no other external power supply) or from an external power supply.
Line-Receiving Modules:
... reconstruct the video signal from the transmission line into a compatible output signal for an appropriate monitor:
- TP1A receivers output RGB analogue video
- TP1V receivers output SVGA-type monitor signals with switchable TTL sync polarity (some monitors sense this to set picture size)
Balanced differential input amplifiers reduce unwanted common-mode interference and have adjustable compensation (to improve picture sharpness).
These units take their power from the twisted-pair line and require no external power supply.
Interconnecting Cable
The twisted-pair cable used must be Category 5 grade UTP / FTP cable, terminated with RJ45 connectors to the EIA568 standard. Foil screening is recommended for optimum EMC.
Excellent picture quality is dependent upon cable length and quality. Resolutions range from 1280x1024 at short lengths to 800x600 at 300 metres.
Maximum cable lengths are determined by the values quoted within product codes,
e.g. TP1B-200 + TP1V-100 = 300m maximum.
